Think of all the bad PUGs you WON'T get into because you're a mesmer.
That's reason enough.

6. Hex spamming is good fun

My main reasons for playing mesmer.

From what you say about your favorite characters all being mellee (apart form ele) I wouldnt be too sure about Mesmer being suited for you.

IF you like playing a Curses Necro, then Id deffinitely say yes. They are pretty similar in many ways imo.

You need to have awareness of the whole field you are up against and have to spread your hexes/curses/interrupts depending on what you are up against and what has the highest priority/is the weakest link in the foe mob.

(Good) Reasons for playing mesmers in PvE :

- Armour ignoring damage
- AoE (clumsiness, ether nightmare <- pwnZ , mistrust, etc... )
- Nail foes, Degenerator, weakens, etc...
- Interruptor (so many here ^^)
- AMAZINGLY powerull hexer (e.g. just cast backfire or skill like that on mobs, then /sit)

(other) reasons :

- They look cool
- Nobody play mesmer
- It just pwnz
- If you go PvP you will just rape wammos (if played properly of course)

Now, why not playing a mesmer :

- You need to have some playing skills (they are hard to play, but challenge is fun imo)
- PUG just don't want you (this is epic fail because mesmer pwnz)
- Playing mesmer in PvE isn't fun because mobs just wont flame you on local chan because you pwn them (quite frustrating ^^)

Well, i think im done ^^ Just pm me for more infos.

I've never had a problem PuGging with my Mesmer (not that I do it much, usually H/H or guildies). I'm usually one of the few people who knows how to set up a skill bar.

It's all about pretty armor. Mesmers are just an inferior class for PvE purposes I'm afraid.

For me it's the fun of running that one profession that no-one else in the guild plays as main or even second character.

However every type of play including interrupt and shutdown can be done the same or even better in PvE by other professions (except assassin and monk).
Having my mesmer knowledge does help a lot playing those other professions though.
I have KoBD(4) and around 9M XP on my mesmer, so I think I know what I'm talking about.

All off the above statements(not the sig of illusion one) and one more:

The pure primitive satisfaction of knowing the guy at the other end of the line is hitting his head against the wall when he cant do anything, especially if its a caster. In casual PvP just take Power Block[elite] any annoy your opponents.

I disagree. The mesmer interupts are more immediate (no flight time compaired to a ranger), and have bonus side effects (Interupted and take 120 unblockable damage, intertupted and mesmer gains 25 energy, interupted and everyone in the area takes 40 and is also interupted, etc), and are also usually cheep (5-10, and some free signets).

Plus, Fast Casting gives you more margin for error.

Rangers have the oppertunity to predict. Flight Time is much more beneficial and can hit 1/4 casts with prediction.

They can also interrupt any skill, which is another benefit over Mesmers.

Mesmers, are really more suited for shutdown in a different form. Things such as Shame, Guilt, Diversion, and that occasional powerful interrupt skill. Power Leak, Cry of Frustration...but that's really the best non-elite ones go.
Power Drain is quite conditional, and I personally don't like it anyway.

But the power of prediction > Mesmers interrupts. 1/4 casts say g'day. ;o

Um, a good mesmer can predict too. I can usually get 1 s casting times by hand, and occasionaly get something faster (I've interupted a mesmer casting Power Drain before).

A flight time means you HAVE to predict. A mesmer can react or predict.

High Ebon Vanguard Rank, Echo, Arcane Echo, Barbs, Mark of Fury and finally...

Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support. Srsly, talk about complete PvE Overkill.

And try using a typical Assassin's promise build using Backfire and other skills. You can kill -everything-, as AI will just keep attacking through it all. Assassin's Promise gets rid of the issue with most mesmers and recharge times too
